Description

Andes Large area PArticle detector for Cosmic ray physics and Astronomy (ALPACA) experiment is a planned extensive air shower experiment aiming for very high energy gamma ray sources in the southern sky. The full array will combine surface detector array with underground muon detector for gamma / hadron discrimination. Currently the prototype, ALPAQUITA surface array has been constructed and is operating since April 2023. In this brief talk, I will introduce the scientific motivation, detector concept and current status of underground muon detector construction with emphasis on cosmic-ray observation results obtained with prototype array.
